The Luminara
Site Overview
The Luminara Hotel is a hotel part of the Badlands Motorsports Resort, proposed in Kneehill County. It was designed to bring the full motorsports experience to Alberta and establish two professional-grade race tracks in the landscape of Alberta's badlands.
The Luminara was designed as part of a proposed multi-building resort complex intended to bring all desirable amenities to its guests. The building features 4 stories along with an underground parking garage, over 90 rooms, an outdoor panoramic patio with seating and vegetation, a gym, spa, locker room, business room, cafe, retail space, childcare facilities, a lounge and bar, office space, event space, and a rooftop luxury restaurant.
Building overview
The luminara is a completely concrete construction building featuring a slanted design with transfer beams to transfer the load between columns. Along with this, the building also utilizes a transfer slab between the garage and first floor, allowing the building to have 2 different column layouts between floors, optimizing space efficiency.
The exterior features 2 different cladding systems to accent its design. On the first floor, we used a carbon coloured fiber cement cladding, with the top 3 floors featuring a brushed aluminum finish aluminum composite cladding. For the glazing, the entire building, rather than using mulions between the glass, we used structural silicone glazing to give the illusion of larger windows.
